Your best resource, is your own curiosity

Think back to a time when you wanted to learn something new, or delve deeper into a topic.

What were the ways you went about doing so? Are any of them below?:

  1. Asked others for the answer first.
  2. Checked available resources, did your own research first, asked others for feedback on your findings based on their experience.
  3. Googled, checked available resources, compiled discovery of findings and saved for future reference.

Out of the options you tried, which had the most powerful & lasting impact?

  1.  You really learned something, you have a deeper understanding than before.
  2.  You feel empowered, excited and ready to apply what you’ve learned.
  3.  You REMEMBER what you discovered. If the situation came up again you’d be able to recall the details, there is a feeling of conscious competence.
  4. Someone else told you the answer. A month passed, you forgot, so you ask again.

My daughters attempted to sell me option 1 & 4 on the daily. I lovingly redirected. They were used to the instant gratification of everything. At first they were irritated and persistent. Why, why can’t you just “give me the answer, do it for me, tell me when you’ve finished??”

The process was as beneficial for them, as it was for me. I watched their confidence and curiosity grow. It reminded me to pause. To take 5 minutes first to research. To remain curious and ask for feedback on what I discover!

There is much to learn about in this fascinating world. There are seemingly endless ways to access information, from anywhere. Your best resource is your own curiosity…

Where will it take you today?
